Celebrate Adoption is a support group
open to all members of the community who have formed their families
through adoption. The support group started in 1989 with support
of Adoption Connection and Jewish Family Service.
Professional support is offered by the staff
of Adoption Connection, guiding families to understand the unique
developmental challenges of adoption on the child and his/her family.
Through discussion groups, educational
programs, and social activities, families can benefit from the
experiences of one another. Activities include the annual holiday
party, spring picnic, and summer playgroups.
An event unique to Celebrate Adoption
is the Birthmother's Tea, a ceremony designed to honor our children's
lifegivers. Adoptive mothers, birthmothers and even grandmothers attend
this yearly event in May near Mother's Day. The ceremony includes
tender readings and moving songs that celebrate all birthmothers and
their unique gift to an adopted child.
