Dear Birthmother,
Thank you for taking the time to get to know us. Our names are Joan and Brandon and by the grace of God we are in the circumstance to adopt. We are excited, anxious, frustrated (with the paperwork involved in adoption), sad (that we are childless now) and happy all at once. Our desire to adopt comes out of our want to provide a home to a child. We believe we have a lot to offer and look forward to beginning our family.
Some basic information about us: We have so many similarities; most people would say we were made for each other. We have enough differences though to complement one another. Brandon teaches English to students who speak a different language and plays trombone for a local symphony orchestra. He can also speak a few different languages including Spanish, Chinese and German. Joan teaches life skills as well as computers. Once we adopt though, Joan looks forward to staying at home to raise children. On the side, we enjoy volunteering for different ministries that support women and children. Presently, we live in a townhouse community where there is also a pool and playground. We are both calm people who enjoy a stable life. When things get tough though, we stay focused and committed to see things through.
We have many loves that we look forward to sharing with our future child. First is our love for God and Jesus Christ. This love and our faith dictate how we treat each other and the people around us, as well as how we speak, act and think. Of course, we are not perfect with this, but that is when grace and forgiveness comes in. We also love our family. Brandon's extended
family includes his parents, a brother and sister, a nephew, and three nieces. Joan's family includes her parents, a brother, two nieces, and two nephews. We gather with our families regularly and enjoy traditional celebrations during the holidays (cake and candles at birthdays, big gatherings at Thanksgiving & Christmas).
Other things we love are our church, our pets (presently we have two cats named Winston and Stormie and some goldfish), traveling in the U.S. and around the world, reading, lifelong learning opportunities, the outdoors, skiing, riding on our scooters, cooking, and listening to/participating in the musical arts. Our values include faith, family and living in a free country. We hope to someday raise a child to experience and enjoy all these things with us.
None of us knows fully why things happen the way they do or why we are in our present circumstances. We believe, though, that God does and He has a purpose. We imagine that this is a difficult time for you, and are praying that you find the right family for your child. If that family is us, we will be excited to get to know you and for your child to get to know you as his/her birthparent(s) to whatever extend with which we are both comfortable (letters, photos, visits). If not, may you have peace in your choice for your adoption placement.
