Dear Birthparent,
Thank you for considering us as adoptive parents. Our names are Lauren and Nicholas. We cannot imagine the feelings you have about creating an adoption plan for your child. We admire your strength and courage and hope that we are able to share a piece of who we are with you.
In the beginning…
I, Lauren, was raised in a small community just north of Cincinnati, Ohio. Nicholas was raised in an even smaller community in northeastern Ohio. We were both raised by very supportive parents, who always guided us and provided a loving home. We met on our first day of school in the fall of 1998 at The University of Toledo. We quickly became friends, and started dating soon after. On September 20, 2002, our four-year anniversary, Nicholas proposed to me. And of course, everyone knew but me! Our wedding was exactly one year later at sunset on a beautiful fall evening in Loveland, Ohio. We were married by a Rabbi and a Minister to celebrate both of our unique backgrounds. All of our friends and family came from near and far to celebrate the day with us. We never imagined that our guest list would be 250 people! Our friends and family never cease to amaze us. Since Nicholas had just started a new job as an electrical engineer we went on a quick honeymoon to Chicago. We took in all the sights including a baseball game and attended a taping of The Oprah Winfrey Show!!
Our lives together…
This September, we will celebrate our 8-year anniversary and we are looking forward to many more to come. As partners in life, we are best friends. We have seen each other through thick and thin, good times and the bad. We enjoy being together and are grateful for all of the experiences that make us stronger. Taking vacations is one of our favorite things to do. Many of our trips are to visit family, but we enjoy other locations too. Every summer our favorite getaway is to a beautiful lake in Northern Michigan. Lauren’s family has been visiting Northern Michigan for over 70 years
and we continue to enjoy the yearly tradition with them. Another favorite destination is Disney World. We can’t wait to share that with our children!! The best thing about our relationship is that it doesn’t matter where we are, or what we are doing. We love to be outdoors, spend time with family and friends, cook, or just hang out at home with our 15-pound cat Ollie.
Why we are choosing adoption…
We have always known that we wanted to build a family someday. For the first few years of our marriage we enjoyed being together and learning more about one another. When the time was right to begin building our family, we were faced with infertility. Dealing with infertility was terribly difficult, but it made us stronger. We believe G-d has a plan and know that adoption is the path for us, and we could not be more excited! Nicholas and I look forward to the day we can bring our new baby home.
Our home…
In the winter of 2005 we decided to build a home in the Northwest corner of Columbus. Our home has 3 bedrooms, a large kitchen, and a large family room. The front of our house looks out to a pond and beautiful sunsets. We enjoy spending time in our home cooking and being with friends and family. Our home is a place where we hope others feel welcome, and we can’t wait to hear the pitter-patter of little feet or their first words. We look forward to birthday parties, holiday celebrations, and family gatherings. We are ready to be “Mom” and “Dad”. Our neighborhood is a very large subdivision. There are a number of green spaces and parks within walking distance and we look forward to being able to take our child to play and enjoy the sunshine! There is even a community clubhouse with a pool to enjoy in the summer months!
Our neighborhood is in a very safe and secure area where the city schools are good and the crime is low. We also are close to city, which offers many activities for families such as COSI and the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium.
Our Families…
Family is very important to us and we spend a lot of time with our families. Nicholas’ family lives in Northern Ohio and they all live
within an hour from each other. Nicholas grew up in a very close-knit family with his parents and his younger brother. His parents still reside in Northern Ohio and his brother and his partner reside in Columbus. They enjoy spending time together camping, cooking out, having bonfires, or just playing a game of cards. Lauren’s family lives in Southwestern Ohio. My family has roots all over the country, but we still remain very close. As a family, we enjoy summers in Michigan, cookouts, and just enjoying each other’s company. I grew up with my parents and my younger brother. My parents still reside in Southwestern Ohio and my brother and his wife reside in Northern Virginia.
Both of our families are so very excited to welcome a little one into the family. This will be the first grandchild, niece, or nephew and our families can’t wait to be Grandparents, Uncles, and Aunts!
Creating New Traditions – Together as One…
When we began our lives together as one, we wanted to include old traditions with new traditions. To honor both our unique backgrounds, we celebrate both Jewish and Christian holidays. This allows us to remain connected to who we are, but celebrate our differences. Some other fun family traditions include: eating cinnamon rolls and watching the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade then going bowling while the turkey cooks. Celebrating Christmas Eve with Chinese food, having all our friends and family over for a yearly Hanukkah dinner, enjoying marathon game nights with family, and gathering around the family room for a Buckeyes game, Reds game, and even sometimes an Indians game!
Nick as a Daddy
Nick (as written by Lauren)
Nick is a very friendly, kind loving person. He is my soul mate and I am fortunate to have him in my life.
Nick adores children. When there are little ones around, Nick is always there to entertain. Whether playing Barbie’s with his cousins, dolls with his best friend's little girl, or a game of catch in the backyard
he is always ready for fun! Nick's patience, gentle manner, and kind-heartedness will make him a terrific Daddy. Nick is excited for midnight diaper changes, playtime, and story time and no matter what the circumstance he'll be ready. He is an amazing guy who will be an amazing Dad.
Lauren as a Mommy – Lauren (as written by Nick)
Lauren is a fun, outgoing, and extremely caring person. She always keeps things spontaneous and fun! She is good at keeping me on my toes! She always shows true compassion and friendship towards others. Sometimes I think she’ll talk to any one! Lauren loves children and deeply believes that every child deserves a chance to be nurtured, educated, and loved. As a teacher, I know she is great at all of these things and will make an absolutely wonderful mother. I know that Lauren looks forward to being a mother, and to the many adventures (trips to the zoo, school activities, vacations, etc) that soon will come.
In Conclusion
Although we don't know you, we hope our story told you a little bit more about us. Our lives have been filled with so much love and support and we cannot wait to surround a little one of our own with that same love and support. We hope to be able to provide a nurturing, loving, caring home filled with lots of family, friends, laughter, and love.
We are very excited for the arrival of our new baby. It is our hope that we continue our relationship with you, the birthparents, after the adoption. We hope you are comforted in this difficult decision and find peace.
Thank you again for considering us as parents for your baby.
Sincerely,
Nick & Lauren
