Adoption Connection in Cincinnati provides Homestudy Education as required by the State of Ohio. Our Homestudy Education groups are open, interactive, and informative forums consisting of prospective adoptive parents.

Please check back for upcoming Homestudy Education groups.

Adoption Connection has a philosophy that hopefully will help you have a shorter time until your placement.

Instead of asking you, as prospective adoptive parents, to just WAIT with us, we are inviting you to WORK with us. This training was developed by an adoptive father after he and his wife used these specific techniques to adopt their two children. It is offered through Adoption Connection's Supportive Services.

For information, contact Angie at (513) 489-1616.

A panel discussion about lgbt adoption and the ohio laws

LGBT Adoption and Family Law: When can we expect changes in Ohio?

Same-sex marriage is now legal in the US, but the Ohio adoption laws have yet to be re-written to allow equal parenting recognition. A panel of adoption experts will discuss the state of LGBT adoption and when families can expect changes on the local level.

Sunday, October 18, 2015

1-3 pm

Mayerson JCC, 8485 Ridge Road, Cincinnati, OH 45236

On June 26, 2015 the Supreme Court of the United States ruled, in Obergefell v. Hodges, that state-level bans on same-sex marriage are unconstitutional.

In the state of Ohio, where non-married couples were not allowed to adopt or foster children, this ruling opens the door for same sex couples to create families.  For families with children, both parents can now be legally recognized and both same sex parents will have their names on a birth certificate.

Fast forward into October and the reality is that re-writing laws once created for traditional marriage and family, takes time and patience.  Many same sex families wanting changes on their children’s birth certificates are still very much in limbo.

Jewish Family Service, Adoption Connection, and The Family Equality Council sponsor a panel discussion including local adoption attorney, Scott Knox who specializes in LGBT family law, Hamilton County Family Court Judge Ralph Winkler, and attorney Ellen Essig.  The panel will discuss the state of LGBT adoption and family law and when families can expect changes on the local level.

Babysitting is available for ages infant- 5 years old at the Mayerson JCC for $2/hour per child. Call 513-766-3336 for reservations.
